Principal
violist of the NDR Symphony Orchestra - Hamburg since September 1989,
born in Romania, exemplifies the elite of Romanian music education. At
the Conservatory High School “George Enescu“ in Bucharest he was among
the leading violinists of his generation. As a student, masterclasses
with Prof. Stefan Gheorghiu and Cornelia Bronzetti allowed him the
opportunity to partake in international competitions and masterclasses.
Winning the Carl-Nielsen-Competition,
Odense 1980 opened doors for Marius Nichiteanu to develop his career as
a soloist. His passion for chamber music inspired him to take over and
concentrate on viola playing. At the renowned viola competition „Maurice
Vieux“ in Paris 1983, he won the 2nd prize (1st prize Tabea Zimmermann)
as well as the prize for the best interpretation of a modern work. This
marked the beginning of a successful solo career.
On countless concert tours with solo
and chamber performances, radio and television broadcasts and recordings
(NDR, Hamburg; BR, Munich; RAI, Rome; Dutch Radio and Dutch TV,
Amsterdam), he performed with renowned conductors and soloists including
Christoph von Dohnanyi, Andre Previn, Christoph Eschenbach, Alan
Gilbert, Menahem Pressler, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Victoria Mullova, David
Geringas and Frans Helmerson. These collaborations brought him to
Germany, China, France, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Romania,
Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and the USA.
Marius Nichiteanu was invited to
numerous international festivals as a soloist and chamber music partner
(Schleswig-Holstein and Rheingau, Germany; Jerusalem, Israel; St.
Petersburg, Russia; Umea and Gotland, Sweden; Korsholm, Finland).
In 1994 Marius Nichiteanu was
appointed to a professorship at the Hamburg University of Music and
Theatre.

Le concours international de violon «
Carl Nielsen »- Odense en 1980, où Marius Nichiteanu est parmi les
lauréats, lui ouvre la voie vers une carrière de soliste.
Après avoir mûrement réfléchi, sa
passion pour la musique de chambre le détermine à se dédier à l’alto.
Il entame sa carrière de soliste en
1983, quand il obtient un deuxième prix (Tabea Zimmermann-premier prix)
et le prix pour la meilleure interprétation de l’oeuvre contemporaine au
Concours international d’alto « Maurice Vieux » à Paris.
Des nombreux concerts en tant que
soliste ou en formation de musique de chambre, des enregistrements avec
diverses maisons de radio, télévisions et maisons des disques (NDR -
Hambourg, Bayerischer Rundfunk – Munich, RAI - Rome, Dutch TV
-Amsterdam) en compagnie des chefs d’orchestre et solistes réputés,
(Christoph von Dohnanyi, André Previn, Christoph Eschenbach, Alan
Gilbert, Menahem Pressler, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Victoria Mullova, David
Geringas et Frans Helmerson), lui ont permis d’évoluer en Allemagne,
Chine, France, Israël, Italie, Japon, Roumanie, Suède, Suisse, Espagne
et aux Etats-Unis.
Plusieurs festivals internationaux
l’ont invité à jouer en tant que soliste ou comme partenaire de musique
de chambre : Schleswig Holstein, Rheingau – Allemagne ; Jerusalem –
Israël ; Saint Petersbourg – Russie ; Umea, Gothland – Suède ; Korsholm
- Finlande.
En 1994 Marius Nichiteanu est nommé
professeur au Conservatoire National Supérieur (Hochschule für Musik und
Theater) d’Hambourg.
